This is how my workouts used to look.
I’d pick 3 exercises per body part and do 8-10 reps. The last two reps would always be forced reps to reach failure.
I’d pyramid up in weight so each set got heavier.
Then I’d throw in one extra set at the end with lighter weight. These are called drop sets… and I’d do it just to get a burn.
This high intensity training really worked for a few years….

How I Finally Discovered The Secrets That Changed My Training, My Body, and My Life!
I was at this used book store one day. I came across an old dusty book that was about the Russian Olympic weight lifting team.
I learned that Russia put their best scientists to work determining how the body builds strength, power, and large muscles. Literally hundreds of experiments were done over the years to determine what worked best and what didn’t.
The Russians developed and perfected a much higher-level training approach that produced results. The book said that anyone who switches over to this innovative training system can expect dramatic improvements in their own results.
This book really talked about how it’s not the amount of time you spend in the gym that matters… it’s HOW you spend that time.
And it talked about the fact that you have to keep your body “guessing” if you want it to grow. It’s this new stress that’s placed on your body that causes it to react and gain muscle.
And the Russians were known for their unique and highly advanced training methods.
This book really explained that at some point… your body stops responding to training if you don’t find a way to FORCE your body to respond to new demands of stress.

In fact, nowadays I’m very busy. I never train more than 2 days in a row and I’m NEVER in the gym more than 4 days a week. And all my workouts are less than an hour.

How I Knew For Sure That I Had Learned The Secret To Gaining Rapid Muscle Size and Strength!
I had been lifting for a long time and felt that I had overcome a lot of my ‘hardgainer’ genes through hard work and dedication.
But like I said, I hadn’t been making any gains and wasn’t sure why my routine wasn’t working for me anymore.
After reading the book on Russian Olympic Weight Lifting… I had a firm grasp as to what I was going to use in the gym for a program.
I was going to follow that routine to a “T”
But amazingly, I wasn’t the only one training that way!
Whether he knew about the Russian Training method… or whether it was just a coincidence… something else happened that PROVED to me this was the way to kick start your body into more muscle gains.
You see… I train at your typical commercial gym located in the Orlando, Florida area.
Over the years, I had made friends with one of the personal trainers named John. He was about 45-years old… but he looked like he was 32.
He was about 5’10” and 220 lbs of solid muscle… with about 10% body fat.
John always wears a tank top when he trains and he’s got some pretty big arms, probably around 19-inches.
One day his training partner cancelled on him… so he asked me to jump in and train with him for the day. I thought… “What the heck… there’s no way this “old man” can out lift me”.
Boy… was I in for a rude awakening!
John didn’t start with heavy compound exercises for medium reps. I would have destroyed him in that!
Instead, we started with some smaller muscle groups and supersetted exercises… doing some higher reps with short breaks.
I Could Literally FEEL These Workouts Working… I Could Feel My Muscles Responding!
These were many of the methods I had learned about in the Russian Training book!
It was lighter weight than I was used to lifting… but by the fourth set… I was fried and had a huge pump going.
John let me tag along for a few more weeks with similar style workouts.
I don’t know if it was the new training partner or the new routine… but I was FINALLY making some sizeable gains again.
